7 Reasons to Follow the Phases of the Moon

  • by

They say men are of the Sun and woman is the Moon. There are many similarities and ways to utilize the power of the one within that resonates the most with you.

A Monthly Cycle

It then grows (waxing moon) towards being a full moon, then it appears to be growing smaller (waning crescent moon) as the days go by and the cycle begins again. This cycle is usually within a 30 day period. I have always looked up and into the sky as I pondered and searched for answers or signs. Mostly, I follow the moon to mark time. And by marking time passing it is easier to live in the now (present). You may need to check out a few websites to get more information and click here to find the current moon phase. There is a phenomenon that is called a Blue Moon and it simply means two full moons in one month period. The second one being called the Blue Moon.

Planets and Stars

To look up at the stars. To figure out my position and which way is North, South, East and West. I look for the Big and Little Dippers. I subscribe to EarthSky and get regular emails on what’s going on in the sky. What planets are visible in the sky. It’s fascinating and I’ve always looked up into the sky. Both in the day (cloud watching) and at night (stargazing). The Eastern/Western star or the Star of the Morning and the Evening Star, is not a star at all but a planet. And that planet is Venus. It is usually the first star to light the night sky and the Moon is a great way to mark and track the other stars and planets in our solar system.
Affects

It has an affect on us whether or not we choose to acknowledge it. We’ve all heard about how the full moon brings out the “weirdness”. And we’ve heard about the supernatural creature who turns from a regular man into a werewolf on the full moon. The fact of the matter is that the moon controls the oceans’ tides. That is a very strong force. If we are made up of a high percentage of water then this no doubt, affects us as well. Can you say water on the brain? I know personally that when it’s at its fullest, it has a strong effect on me. I feel more alive and in tune with my um lets just say… bodily functions. I am alert, ready for the day to turn into night so that I can view the full moon on my walks. It affects me in a positive way because I have watched and waited for it. Now there are supermoons, eclipses and our view and type of effect from Earth can depend on the apogee (farther from earth ) and perigee (close to earth) .

Here are seven reasons to follow the moon:
Follow the moon to mark time. To be mindful of time passing and to live in the now.
Harness the power of it to bring something into being or grow bigger (grow a bank account with actions aligned with intentions).

Harness the power of it to make something smaller (like a debt or bill with actions aligned with intentions ).

Now that you are looking up, learn something new as it pertains to astronomy (like about apogee and perigee).

Be mindful of how the full moon may affect you. If its in a negative way, stay indoors and away from people. If a positive way do whatever may further that good feeling.

It’s a great conversation starter and who knows, you may find someone else who is interested as well or interested in learning more.

Following it across the night sky is also a great navigational marker (rises in the West and sets in the East, the exact opposite of the Sun). You can get good enough to tell what time it is by the position of the moon as you follow it across the night sky.
