Why you need all those pillows!

Pillow Talk

Ever since I was a child I had more than one or two pillows on my bed. It seems as I’ve grown older, the pillows have grown, diversified and multiplied as well. They have reflected my color, texture/textile and crush preferences throughout the decades. I’ve probably had every color imaginable as my preference changed with each new color scheme or whim. From, pinks, to purples, beige, shades of browns, gold and black and white accented with pops of color, I have constantly changed the color scheme and the amount of pillows. There are so many different types of pillows! When I’m at Pier One, I’m in decorative pillow heaven. Bolster, Euro, Boudoir, Lumbar and Bed Rest are the more fancy ones and of course everyone knows of the basic throw pillow. I would venture to say the most I’ve had at one time was 17 on my California King sized bed. I know that’s a lot of pillows. Granted there were five smaller mahogany mink covered pillows. But those still counted and were usually not used save but for decorative purposes. They were hella expensive and super soft. I still covet silk or satin covered, down or down alternative filled pillows of the bolster type which is not common. Because these bolster or lumbar pillows are usually filled with memory foam and are more functional. However, the current main base pillows are two king-sized Bamboo foam pillows (super duper soft).

So Many

The reason for so many pillows is simple. I use the majority of these pillows because they please me to see. It gives me pleasure just to see all those pillows. It’s me and my personal preference. And they provide more than mere visual pleasure. I use them for my neck, back and hips. I sometimes sleep almost upright, propped up on my many pillows. I may need a pillow for my bolster or lumbar pillow under my neck or back. I almost always have one between or under my knees to support either my back (again) or hips. These pillows may be interchanged several times during the night and it all depends on the day’s activities as to how many and which ones will be used that night. So I have a wide variety of pillows at the ready. All others will be put on a chair, never on the floor. Which brings me to my CDO or OCD (because you know they need to be in alphabetical order). But seriously, having personal preferences is fine. Knowing what pleases and satisfies you is important. And having obsessive compulsive disorder about where the pillows are placed can be a problem if you LET it be a problem. Just know that you have control over you. Your mind or mindset and your environment. You make it right for you and you must be satisfied with it, And remember things can change and that’s okay too. Be flexible so that you bend, not break.

Pretty

I’ve been questioned many times by different people about my many pillows. And my answer has pretty much been the same. Things of beauty and remember beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, please me. Beauty, function and quality please me even more. I can look at my bed and I am pleased. I should spend a third of my day in it (8 hours of sleep or resting). I want it pretty at a minimum. At the maximum I choose that it be beautiful. The bed in the bedroom, The bed clothes i.e. sheets, pillow covers/cases and the comforter(shams, ruffles and whatever). And of course the pillows. So you see, you or me in this particular case, absolutely do need all those pillows.

And they’re so pretty.
